From March 28th to April 28th 2013, Galerie Artcadienne located at Carrefour Beausoleil in Miramichi, presents the installation Carrés de Jeu from artist Raymonde Fortin.

Originally from the Gaspésie Region, in Quebec, Raymonde Fortin is a professional painter and sculptor living and working in Moncton since 1985. She obtained a Bachelor in visual arts at l’Université de Moncton, and has presented many solo exhibitions and participated in a number of group exhibitions since 2004. She achieved recognition for her work in 2007 when she received the annual Éloizes Award for Artist of the year in the Visual Arts category.

Raymonde was the first winner of the New Brunswick BMO Financial Group’s 1st Art Work competition in 2007 and won the Francophonie’s Visual arts award at the Festival des arts visuels en Atlantique in 2005.

Her inspiration comes from both the real and the imaginary, from spontaneity and reason, from experience and dreams.

“Because I’m an artist who likes to touch the world of painting, drawing and sculpture, various avenues naturally coalesce in my practice,” she says. “The work develops through a painter’s approach, but will be delivered with the intention of a sculptor. Everything becomes material to observe, dissect, to explore, to compress in order to extract the essential. This quest leads me to seek simplicity, transparency and light in the realization of my work while keeping the freedom of movement and exploration of textures.”

Raymonde’s studio is located in the Aberdeen Cultural Centre in Moncton.

Carrés de Jeu or the Squares Game is an exhibition of drawings on canvas and assembled into cubes then arranged in a certain way depending on the size of the room. The assembled drawings become sculptures. The cubes are placed on a base that can’t be seen, giving the impression that they are floating.

The Galerie Artcadienne is open seven days a week and admission is free. Visiting hours are 8 am to 10 pm during the week and 9 am to 5 pm on the weekend. The Galerie is located at 300 Beaverbrook Road. For information telephone 506.627.4125.
