MHL Release Schedule for 2015-16 Season

twolvesdarklogoThe MHL is proud to release its schedule for the 2015-16 regular season. As was the case last year, the league will follow a 48 game schedule, meaning 288 exciting matches will be contested among the MHL’s 12 teams. Each club will face off against teams from their own division six times while taking on teams from the opposing division three times.

“The release of our regular season schedule is always an exciting time,” MHL President Dave Ritcey said. “Every season, our outstanding fans look forward to marking several matchups on their calendars and this year will be no exception.”

Including its previous incarnations, the Metro-Valley and Maritime Jr.A Hockey Leagues, this will be the 49th regular season campaign for the MHL. The action starts on Thursday, September 10th at 7PM when the Valley Wildcats visit the Pictou County Weeks Crushers in what will be a home and home series for the two clubs to start the season.

On Friday, September 11th, the reigning regular season and Kent Cup Champion Dieppe Commandos will begin the defense of their titles at home in a 7:30PM start when they host the Amherst Ramblers. New Ramblers bench boss Jeff Leblanc will make his first return to the Arthur J. Leblanc Arena after leading Dieppe to the franchise’s first championship in 20 years last season.

Last year’s Eastlink Division playoff champions, the Truro Bearcats, will play their home opener on Saturday, September 19th at 7PM when they take on Pictou County for the first time since eliminating the Crushers in the first round of the Kent Cup Playoffs last spring. For Shawn Evans’ Bearcats, they will be defending their division playoff title for the third consecutive season. The Commandos and Bearcats, representatives in last year’s Kent Cup Final, will face each other on October 15th in Dieppe and on November 7th and February 20th in Truro.

Closer to home, the action begins at the Civic Centre on Saturday, September 12th, when our Miramichi Timberwolves host the South Shore Lumberjacks. Game time is 7:30 pm. The early bird season ticket drive is being held again, offering discounts on season passes. They will be at the Civic Centre every Thursday in July starting this week July 2nd between 3 pm and 6 pm in the front lobby. For information call 623-9935. Early bird specials for a limited time are: Seniors and Students $150, Adults $190.

This year’s traditional holiday break will run from December 21st to January 2nd. After single games on January 3rd and January 6th respectively, the MHL returns in full swing with three games on Thursday, January 7th. The regular season will conclude on Sunday, March 13th, when the Truro Bearcats visit the South Shore Lumberjacks at 1PM and the Dieppe Commandos play host to the County Aces at 2:30PM.

MHL training camps will begin throughout the league on August 24th with numerous exhibition games to take place leading up to beginning of the regular season. The league will also be represented for the first time at the Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Cornwall, Ontario from November 16th-18th. Finally, the league will be home to the 2016 Fred Page Cup, set to take place in Woodstock from May 4th-8th. The winner of the Fred Page Cup will represent Eastern Canada at the 2016 RBC Cup, taking place in Lloydminster, Alberta from May 14th-21st.
