"Get
Set"
The Comfort Zone
There once was a man who lived in the comfort zone. It was a comfortable
place where he could wear his pajamas all day and walk around with messy
hair and morning
breath
that's what everyone did. Everyone in the Comfort Zone also
had a toolbox, but nobody knew what they were for, so they were never
used.
One day he saw a beautiful place far off in the distance and decided
he would leave the Comfort Zone and go do something! But he encountered
an obstacle..a deep canyon separated him from his dream. He dug out his
toolbox, and inside he found all the tools he needed to build a bridge
and a compass to point him in the right direction!
We all
have the necessary tools/skills/abilities to take us where we want to
go. To build bridges that will lead us in the right direction.
Look inside your toolbox and what do you find?
Steps to Building Bridges
1) Know where you are - what do you want to do? What are your dreams?
2) Use your compass - set goals to get to your dream
3) Use your clock - manage your time
Use Your Compass
Set your Goals
When setting your goals, you are:
Committed - Write down your goals. Be specific.
Optimistic - Use the phrases "I will" and "I am".
Manager - Set realistic goals. Don't expect to be an astronaut
in 6 months.
Prioritizer - Rank your goals in order of importance.
Actor - Act Now! What can you do today to help you achieve your
goal?
Smart - Smart people take small steps. Break your goals down into
smaller steps.
Steps - One step at a time.
Check it out!
Check your progress weekly. Have your goals changed since you wrote them
down? Are they still important? Do you have more to add?
Check it off!
When you reach your goals "check them off" and reward yourself.
Use Your Clock
Put a time-frame on your goals. When do you want to have them completed
by
1 week? 6months? 2 years?
Goals and time limits are not written in stone.
They can always be changed. If you don't reach your goal within the time
you wrote down...that's okay! Extend the time-frame and keep working on
the goal.
Ask Yourself
Are you spending your time? Or investing your
time?
What are your priorities?
8 hours = sleep
8 hours = school/work
8 hours = ????? What are you doing with your 8 hours?
Make A "To Do" List
This sounds like a simple task but it is one of
the most effective things you can do to manage your time. What small steps
can you do today, to help you achieve your goals?
Putting it all Together
1. Dream
2. Set Goals - Take Small Steps
3. Manage Your Time
4. Check it out. Check it off.
5. Reward yourself for reaching your goals.
Try This!
Create a Treasure Map! Cut out pictures of your goals and put them up
where you can see them. Paste photos from catalogs and magazines onto
a piece of Bristol board or draw your own pictures.
