RENOUS — On July 24, community members from Good Shepherd Parish gathered at Saint Bridget’s Church in Renous to say farewell to Father Godwin Kalu SMMM, who will be re-locating to Saint Marguerite
Bourgeoys Parish in nearby Miramichi.

Father Godwin was joined by Father Daniel Bastarache, who has been his counterpart in the parish for the past two years, and will now assume the role of sole pastor in the parish.

In reflecting on the day’s readings, Father Bastarache said that, in Father Godwin, the seed of God’s word had found good soil.

He continued that he was grateful for the friendship he and Father Godwin have shared, as well as all that he had been taught by his fellow priest.

Father Bastarache closed by wishing his friend the best and asking God’s protection and good health for him.

In his reflection following the mass, Father Kalu was thankful for having had the opportunity to serve, for the brotherhood of his fellow priests, Father Daniel Bastarache and Father Vincent Donovan, and to the parish community, whose support he valued and cherished, and whose prayers he appreciated and acknowledged.

Quick to remind everyone that he was not going very far, he said that he planned to maintain the connections he had established
in the Southwest Miramichi.

Those present were asked to pray for Father Godwin, as he
began this new journey.
