September 19, I’m buying an NB book!

Bookstores, publishers, and literary organizations across New Brunswick are teaming up to launch the first ever I’m buying an NB book! day. The aim of this rallying event, which fosters curiosity and pride, is to highlight New Brunswick authors and increase sales of their books in local bookstores.

New Brunswick literature is diverse and rich in stories, and deserves to be showcased in our home libraries. With literature as with food, buying local has a positive impact on the vitality and growth or our community. On Saturday, September 19, 2020, readers of all ages are encouraged to visit a bookstore or retail location, or to shop online through their favourite bookseller or publisher, to purchase books by New Brunswick authors.

Everyone is invited to take part in this celebration of local literature called I’m buying an NB book / J’achète un livre du N.-B. Make the day yours by sharing the images, tagline, and hashtags (#September19, #myNBbook, and #IReadLocal) associated with the event. All initiatives put forward by individuals or by organizations to promote or to participate in this day are welcome: book suggestions, pop-up bookstores, display stands, pictures or lists of purchases posted to social media, book signings, etc.

Similar initiatives have seen great success in other Canadian provinces, increasing in reach each year. Many participating bookstores saw an increase in customer traffic, as well as a spike in book sales over a few hours. We hope to see similar results come from I’m buying an NB book! day, for this edition and the ones that will follow, ultimately to strengthen the literary sector and foster a vibrant culture of reading in New Brunswick.
