Miramichi Swimmers Qualify for East Coast Championships

Three Miramichi Whitecaps swimmers qualified for the annual East Coast Long Course Championships to be held in St. John's, Newfoundland this summer.

The Miramichi Whitecaps (MWC) swim team capped off another great weekend at the Team Aquatics Long Course Championships and Canada Games Trials in Saint John, NB May 24 – 26th.

Highlights of the meet include many of the swimmers ranking in the top eight including 13 year old Heidi Amos, who captured fourth place in the 100 m butterfly. Seasoned swimmer Rebecca Kingston bested her times in three individual races while Emily Kelly reached the podium in the 100 m butterfly, swimming to a second place finish.

Mia Schofield won silver in the 400 individual medley. She is one of three MWC swimmers who qualified for the annual East Coast Long Course Championships to be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland this summer.

The meet will have competitors spanning from the four Atlantic provinces. Thirteen year old Mia Schofield will be returning to the meet for her second year in a row, qualifying in the 200 and 400 Freestyle as well as the 200 and 400 IM. Danielle Schofield, age 15, qualified in the 50 freestyle while 12 year old Olivia Dedam qualified in the 200 IM, 200 and 400 Freestyle.

The competition takes place July 4 – 7 2013.
