Miramichi Welcomes Marathon Runner Jessica Lange

On May 20th Jessica Lange started her journey of running 26 marathons in 26 days from Quebec City to Halifax and from Paris to Chartres in France, where her younger brother lives with schizophrenia. Her goal is to raise money and awareness to support mental illnesses. She will be running into Miramichi this weekend and staying with Lill Jenkins for a short rest before continuing her run.

The 5th Annual River Run 4 Vets in Doaktown. Starts with a sail (canoe) down the beautiful Miramichi at 11 am from the McNamee Footbridge to Doaktown on Saturday, June 29,2019. (July long weekend). It ends with entertainment and a BBQ steak or chicken dinner at Branch #23 Doaktown Legion. Full package for the event is $30 which includes a River Run t-shirt, dinner plus many other goodies. Or you can just attend the dinner for $15.

Miramichi Hope Café

Miramichi Hope Café serves free meals to the community every Friday from 12 pm noon to 1 pm, year-round, at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church Hall in Miramichi. They now serve between 40 to 55 meals each week, and also serve meals on special occasions. As well, “free for the taking” items table are available during the meals. Donations to the Miramichi Hope Café are most welcome. Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church Hall is located at 214 Pleasant Street. Parking is available at the rear of the hall.

Northumberland Kent Legionnaire of the Year Announced

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 Chatham recently had one of their volunteers’ named Legionnaire of the Year for the District of Northumberland- Kent. Cathy Delong was pleasantly surprised when her name was announced as the recipient of this years award. Comrade Delong has dedicated many hours to the Chatham Branch 3 Legion through her volunteerism with the Legion Bingo, 50/draw which are weekly events, setting up the tables for functions, a Greeter for events hosted by the Legion, assisting in the Kitchen and any other tasking that my required by the branch.

The 4th Annual Butterfly Release Event for the Hospice Miramichi Inc. will be taking place on Sunday, July 21st, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Hospice Miramichi Inc., 14 Howard Street, directly behind the Saint Michael’s the Archangel Basilica Roman Catholic Church in Chatham. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. and the release is at 12:30 p.m. noon. Tax receipts will not be issued for the Butterfly Purchases.
