Delta Fredericton Chef’s Prepare Meal for Greater Blackville Resource Centre’s Hunger Awareness Week

The Greater Blackville Resource Centre hosted their popular Soup’s On free community lunch program twice this week as part of Hunger Awareness Week.  On Tuesday, May 6, lunch was served at the GBRC by Darlene Jardine and her team. The centre was also open for tours and the thrift store was open to shoppers.

On Wednesday, May 7, Soup’s On was held at Saint Andrews United Church Centre and was prepared by Executive Chef Greg Godfrey and Chef Chris Taylor, both of the Delta Fredericton. The Delta donated the Chefs’ time and much of the cost of the meal. An estimated 95-100 people enjoyed lunch.

Hunger Awareness Week continues on Thursday, May 8 with a Give It Up For Hunger Challenge. Skip your lunch and donate the cost in cash or in non-perishable food items to the Food Bank! Close to 900,00 Canadians have relied on food banks this past month.  Know what it’s like to have food out of reach by challenging yourself to give up your lunches or a food staple during the week.

Rounding out the activities for the week, Juno Award winning folk musician Stephen Fearing will perform on Friday, May 9 at the Jumpin’ Fishes Gala Salmon Dinner that will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church Centre in Blackville.
