When Ralph McCray retired from serving his country for over 20 years as an Aircraft Technician he moved home to the Miramichi to slow down and enjoy life.

In 1999, instead of slowing down, he and his wife Lucy purchased Dunnett’s Scrap Metal and started Miramichi City Scrap Metal. A few years later he changed the name to Miramichi City Surplus because his slogan was: “You name it, we have it!”

Today, while Ralph is busy running the business, Lucy, a Registered Dietician, is very busy volunteering in the community, promoting healthy eating and active living. Their son Chad is following in his dad’s footsteps and is in the service, while their daughter Victoria just graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a B.Sc in Kinesiology and will be continuing on with a degree in Sports Therapy.

Today, Miramichi City Surplus has expanded employing up to eight staff during their busy season. They buy and sell new and used items, have a bottle depot, and also specialize in scrap metal, copper, aluminium, steel and more. They sell hunting and fishing licenses and all the gear you will need in one stop.

“We have all your outdoor sporting needs including new and used firearms, fishing tackle, camping and outdoor clothing. Drop off your recycling at our bottle redemption centre and do some shopping while you’re here,” Ralph says.

He sees the business continuing to grow as they are filling a need in the community. For more information or to view their products and specials online visit their website at www.MiramichiCitySurplus.com.

Ralph wants to thank everyone for all the support shown to his family and employees through the recent issue with the authorities regarding firearm procedures. While this is being resolved, Miramichi City Surplus is open for business as usual, with the exception of firearms and ammunition.
