On Thursday, February 12, the Blackville Women’s Institute will be hosting their annual Heritage Week celebrations. This event is open to the public and is free of charge.

2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of both the Canadian and New Brunswick flags. To recognize this milestone, the theme for Heritage Week 2015 will be Hope Restored, a concept adopted from New Brunswick’s provincial motto.

On February 15, 1965, the national flag of Canada was proclaimed by Queen Elizabeth II. Less than ten days later, on February 24, 1965, New Brunswick also unveiled a provincial flag, which incorporated symbols from Coat of Arms previously assigned by Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria in 1868.

The Women’s Institute invites you to come listen to stories, music and view historic photos of Blackville. The event takes place from 2 pm to 4 pm. A light lunch will be served.

Heritage Day celebrations will be held at the Blackville Community Centre, 12 Bartholomew Road South.
