Around the River this Weekend August 6th – 9th

Take advantage of the cooler temperatures this weekend and get out and enjoy some of the great activities happening around the Mighty Miramichi region!

Whalen’s Barn on the Old King George Hwy in Newcastle has a real treat tonight, Thursday August 6th, with Fredericton based and nationally touring blues man, Keith Hallett coming to town! The show starts at 7 pm sharp and admission is $12 at the door.

Meanwhile in the Newcastle Downtown tonight, the 58th Annual Miramichi Folksong Festival continues with special guests Ivan & Vivian Hicks followed by an old fashioned Kitchen Party at the Black Horse Tavern. Tomorrow night the successful festival wraps up with the Closing Dinner and Concert at the Beaverbrook Kin Centre.

There are quite a few things happening within the City limits this weekend. The Miramichi Dragway Park has Heads Up Drag Racing starting tomorrow and running through Sunday. There will be a 10 Year Anniversary Celebration of Recycling at the Kin Centre in Newcastle on Saturday with fun activities for kids, cake, and information about the new Curbside Recycling Program. Peacekeepers’ Day Celebrations will honour fallen Peacekeepers with a Parade and UN Flag Raising in Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday, August 9th, beginning at 11 am. A Community BBQ honouring the memory of Nancy Lordon will happen at Middle Island on Sunday from 12:30 until 3:30 pm. Sunday evening at 7 pm a special edition of Symphony at Sunset featuring Campfire Stories & Bologna will get under way at Bicentennial Park in Nelson.

Get out of town and head upriver this weekend for the Blackville Blue Grass Festival starting tomorrow, and downriver Old Home Week in Tabusintac wraps up this weekend with lots of activities including The Durty Nellys at the Farewell Dance Saturday night.
