Around the River this Weekend July 16-19

midwayIt’s looking like Mother Nature is set to smile upon the Mighty Miramichi again this weekend, bringing lots of sunshine and warm temperatures! And thank goodness because there is so much happening, we don’t even know where to begin! If ever there was a weekend when you need to clone yourself, this is the one!

It all started earlier this week when the 92nd Annual Miramichi Exhibition opened on Tuesday, and of course it gears up to full throttle heading into the weekend.

The east side of the river is going to be busy all weekend long with Canada’s Irish Festival starting today, Thursday, in Chatham; the Downeast Nationals with over $50,000 in prizes happening Saturday and Sunday at the Miramichi Dragway Park in Napan, Beaubears Island celebrating Canada Parks Day with the official opening of their new trail system and a famous election campaign re-enactment; Lionsault at Dooly’s and lots more happening east of the river!

Meanwhile, over in Newcastle, if world-class blues slide guitar is something you crave, you will find it at Whalen’s Barn tonight, Thursday July 16th, when John Campbelljohn takes the stage. You’ll find great live entertainment at the clubs on the west side all weekend long with Legacy Gray at the REC, Jeff Hogan at Jack’s, Jack Bowie at The Boulevard and much more.

But let’s not forget what’s happening when you get out of town. Up river there’s the Pow Wow in Eel Ground with its famous fireworks display and Blackville is celebrating Blackville Days with the Big Bad Marty Band among other things. Head down river to Neguac Celebrates Summer this weekend. Plus there’s tons going on at the Annual Collette Picnic.
