Huge Turnout for Blackville Skating Party

Blackville Outdoor Rink Skating Party

The Blackville Outdoor Rink community skating party drew a large crowd on Friday night, January 31. Over one hundred children took to the ice for the free three-hour event sponsored by the Recreation Council. Inside, the building was filled to capacity with parents and children alike. Blackville mayor Andrew Hawkes, deputy mayor Matt Sturgeon and councillors Cindy Ross and Christopher Hennessy welcomed the group. Southwest Miramichi MLA Jake Stewart was also in attendance.

“We’re very pleased with the turnout.” Recreation council president Ian Fortune continued, “I’d like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and all the businesses who donated prizes and made this event a success.”

The ice surface was perfect, as was the weather. Volunteers Cynthia Barry, Roy Nowlan, Jamie Gillespie and Stephen Walls worked the canteen, where hot chocolate and french fries were the popular treats of the night.

There were over 40 prizes donated by local businesses. A full list of winners is below.
